Mark,
I want to say a hearty congratulations on your long-awaited success! I knowing you for the years I that have, you were a most diligent and most determined man when it came to your research and note-taking for the preparation of your book. I remember many of the times we had our conversations, where you were willing to share with me some of the letters and memorable moments that your dear Dad shared with your dear Mom. A few of those letters you showed me, showed a man ( your Dad ) who was well-spoken and very much a gifted writer.
I was very impressed with the style and character of his writings! One could only imagine what this gentleman, had he survived the war, could have accomplished in the area of literature and creative writing. His style and prose was uniquely his own. His ability to provide such clear detail through creative imagery and metaphor, is something that we don't see much of in today's written literature.
I am also impressed in how far you have come along. Even though you haven't heard this from me before, but I believe you have already made a huge difference in the lives of those around you; In your own special way! My heart-felt congratulations for you are in order.
I wish you and yours the best of luck and bountiful Blessings, as you continue your journey in life. I will order a copy of your wonderful masterpiece, as it seems appropriate to support a friend who has shown such a fierce dedication and determination to principle and an undying love for someone you barely got to know before he died. My hat's off to you sir!
- James

I'm writing a book to honor the men from my area that died in Vietnam. Unfortunately, John Seeley was one of those men. In doing my research, I came across Mark's book. I read it with interest, taking notes for my book. Mark's book was a wealth of information and a touching story. Thanks Mark.

Mark- Elijah never really died, and neither did your father. He was a Godly man and an American Hero- I thank God for his service and for his gift to this earth of you. Mary 2 Kings 2:11 (New International Version)
11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.

Mark, I live on K Bar T drive with the flag pole in front. You stopped by one early evening and I purchased your book. I read half of it that first nite and was definitely impressed.I finally finished reading it tonite 1-17-11. Your Father was trully a great and blessed man. With the love and devotion of his young family. The trials you went through in finding peace and closure in your Fathers passing in a time of war, like so many other children who lost there Fathers. Mark, it broke my heart to feel what you went thru those years.I pray that your heart has finally found peace.I would like you to contact me at 571-3827.I would cherish your friendship.

Mark, I picked up your book today and read up through the first part of Chapter 9. I will not be reading your Dad's letters to your Mom; too much of an invasion of privacy! As the sole survivor of a Huey crash in Vietnam in 1966 I can certainly identify with your search for answers and am glad you met with veterans who knew your Dad and I hope those contacts have helped you. Did you know Ed "Too Tall to Fly" Freeman, the late medal of honor winner from Boise? Good first book, Mark; with your talent why would you waste your time on politics?

My daughter bought your book for me for my birthday. I read it. Well done. I'm a VN Vet, former Army Nurse. This is the first time I've read about pilots. Also your personel journey is note- worthy. I was fortunate to attend WWII Navy reunions with my father. I belong to a writers' critique group & last PM described your book as a biography within an auto-biography. I published 2 books in the western genere & on occassion write a magazine article. Hand Salute, Duane

This book was very well written, expressive and engaging. I certainly cannot express my feelings and emotions on paper like Captian Seeley. His flowing, eloquent words are amazing for someone that flys a helicopter for the Army. Big John had a special love for his wife and kids, I can only hope that I to can share a similar love toward my family. John was always thinking and preparing for his future and family something that has helped me in my own life. We don't know what our future holds, so make sure those whom we care for the most know that we love them. This is one thing I gleened from this book. I also gained new perspectives on the homeless, war widows and their kids, and veterans in general. May God bless all vetrans and their families for the services and lives which the gave and will give. Thank you John and Mark for words of inspiration. Gods Speed.

Note to Readers: My father's Commanding Officer retired as a Colonel. In the chapter of letters written to Mom in the months following Dad's fatal crash there are three from (then[1966]- Major Shields. He said this of "A Most Fortunate Man" in a letter written on August 2: "Congratulations! Your book was remarkable, particularly impressive was the research and time spent finding whatever facts and speculation [ about the crash that killed Dad on 6-27-66] you could find

Congratulations, Mark!!! Take time to celebrate your success~~John Seeley didn't need "Writers Digest" to be published~~YOU have achieved his dream for him/with him~~in your heart and mind, in the very marrow of your bones, every cell bears his imprint. Now honor and love what HE honored and loved with every breath~~every word he wrote. Keep writing, Mark!! With much love to you and Laura...Jackie
